Cheap charter flights and schedule flights to the Canary Islands abound, with an excellent choice of UK and Irish Airports offering direct flights to the Canaries, particularly Gran Canaria and Tenerife South Airports. You can hop on direct flights from the UK to Gran Canaria, Tenerife South (and indeed infrequently directly to Tenerife North Airport), Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and less frequently to La Palma, although direct flights from the UK to La Palma look set to increase with the current building at La Palma airport of another terminal (amidst local protest!). To reach the smaller west Canary Islands of La Gomera and El Hierro, connecting flights run daily from Tenerife North Airport and Gran Canaria Airport. Binter Canarias, the main airline connecting all the Canary Islands and serving airports across the islands, runs regular inter-connecting flights daily from and to Lanzarote between Tenerife North Airport and Gran Canaria Airport. Most visitors connect with Fuerteventura via a quick boat trip on the Fred Olsen Express from Playa Blanca to Corralejo on the northern tip of Fuerteventura. It's a very short boat trip this, under 15 minutes, making a day trip to Fuerteventura and the stunning white sandy beaches of Corralejo within easy reach from Lanzarote.
Gran Canaria's Airport, alongside Tenerife North and Tenerife South, is a major connector base with flights to all the other Canary Islands, including El Hierro and La Gomera, as well as serving a vast number of inbound international flights. A selection of inter-connecting ferries depart from various locations on Gran Canaria, whisking you off to Tenerife, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura via the two main ports of Agaete on the north west side of the island, and from Las Palmas the capital. Ferry services from Corralejo in the north of Fuerteventura to Playa Blanca in South Lanzarote are getting quicker - currently in 2006 they're timed at 12 minutes for the crossing. Tenerife Norte/North Airport serves mostly Canary Islands inter-connecting flight, and indeed Tenerife North is the main airport for flying to the other islands, offering flights to all of the other six islands. Some international schedule flights also land here, with some flights also to mainland Spain. Both Airports are busy places, with ample car hire firms, ATMs, cafes and tax free shops.
Five Express ferries run daily from Los Cristianos in the south of Tenerife across to San Sebastian on La Gomera. It's a popular route for day trippers looking to sample a little of Christopher Columbus history at San Sebastian (another port he stopped at) and move inland for a walk in the stunning Garajonay National Park on La Gomera. Cheap flights to La Palma, El Hierro and La Gomera are mostly to be found from Binter Canarias Airlines. If travelling from the UK you'll usually opt to connect via Binter Canarias from either Tenerife North Airport or Gran Canaria's Las Palmas Airport. Both Tenerife North and Gran Canaria Airport offer daily flights to all three of the Western Canary Islands.
