Golfing Holiday choice on the Canary Islands is superb. Tenerife currently offers the largest choice of golf courses, with some of the best around the southern resorts. Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura also offer a superb selection of golf course, and Fuerteventura particularly has several more golf courses currently being built (one is to be in Jandia).
Lanzarote has a particularly good golf course ideally located just outside Costa Teguise and even tiny La Gomera now has its own luxury golf course situated near the airport in the south of the island.
Costa Teguise Golf Course has 18 holes, and was built in 1978. All year round golf is available here on this relatively challenging course. It's nicely designed and is actually located at the foot of an old volcano - plenty of cactus, palm trees and moulding around lava flow, with good views, this golf course is definitely aesthetically pleasing.

Golf Course choice on Gran Canaria is excellent, and expanding. Currently there are 7 excellent golf courses, including the big one at Maspalomas/Playa del Ingles. Four golf courses (as of 2006) are currently under construction. With a favourable climate for all year round golf holidays, Gran Canaria alongside Tenerife is a good choice for golf holidays. They're cheap to enter too. The choice includes Real Club de Golf de Las Palmas, El Cortijo Club de Campo, El Cortijo Golf Centre, Club de Golf de Maspalomas, Salobre Golf & Resort and Anfi Tauro Golf. Golf fans would do well to opt for Maspalomas, Puerto de Mogan, Las Palmas or Telde as their holiday base for easy access to Golf courses on Gran Canaria.
Real Club de Golf de Las Palmas Carretera de Bandama, s/n, Gran Canaria, Spain. Tel: 34 928 350104 (weblink right). This Gran Canaria golf course has a long history, dating back to 1891. Situated a few km outside Las Palmas, this course is located at the foot of a dormant volcano (a pretty common occurance for golf courses across the Canaries!). 18 hole golf course, with a par 71. Other facilities include putting greens, a practice tee, instructors on-site for lessons. shop, golf equipment rental and there's also some tennis courts.
El Cortijo Club de Campo, Autopista del Sur G.C. 1 / Km 6,4, Telde. Tel: 928 711 111. (see website right). This excellent 18 hole, 72 par golf course is a favourite for top international and national golf competitions, with 6 lakes, palm trees galore, a practice course and putting greens, a golf school and golf equipment hire available. Check out too the El Cortijo Golf Centre, a floodlit golf course offering night time golf, with 18 holes, par 54. Also at Autopista del Sur G.C. 1 / Km 6,4 - Telde.
Maspalomas and surrounds is a hotspot in the south for Gran Canaria golf. Courses include the new Salobre Golf and Resort, Autopista Gran Canaria 1, KM 53, Urbanizacion Salobre Golf & Resort, Maspalomas, Gran Canaria. Tel: 34 928 01 01 03/ 34 828 061 828. Situated just 5km outside of Maspalomas. This golf course is developing all the time, offering now a total of 27 holes, with south and north courses. Numerous leisure faciltities are attached to this luxurious golf complex including a golf school, restaurant, terrace, driving range, puttng greens, golf equipment hire and more. Ideal as a conference venue, numerous hotels are also situated within the golf resort complex.
Fuerteventura golf is on the up and up. Already Fuerteventura has one highly acclaimed golf course in Caleta de Fuste - the island's main resort. This course hosted the Spanish Open in 2004 and offers 18 holes/Par 70 course, with on-site club house, 3 enormous lakes and a 50 bay driving range.
Plans (and indeed building work) are afoot for four more luxury golf courses on Fuerteventura, one in Rosa del Lago just north of Fuerteventura's capital Puerto del Rosario, another in the Jandia Peninsula, another around the Vinamar Barranco in the Pajara region - this will serve the Playas del Jable area and finally El Faro de El Cotillo to the north sees building work currently underway (2006) on its golf course.
Fuerteventura obviously has plans to push itself as a top Canary Islands golf holiday hotspot - to compete with both Tenerife and Gran Canaria which currently have a good selection of golf courses. For relaxing golfing holidays, Fuerteventura is a good choice!
Tenerife remains the Canaries island of choice for golf holidays (although there's some stiff competition coming it's way from Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria particularly!). Most visiting golf fans might think first of Playa de las Americas and the southern resorts as top Tenerife locations for the best choice of local golf courses. You wouldn't be far wrong here, the southern region of Tenerife is particularly well served by golf courses including Golf Las Americas, Golf Costa Adeje, Los Palos Golf Center Playa de las Americas, Amarilla Golf, San Miguel and Golf Del Sur, and San Miguel (inland near Las Americas).
There's more to Tenerife golf however. Move to the north west of Tenerife west of Garachico and discover the golf course at Buenavista, with stunning views out to sea and across to Punto de Teno. To the north east of Tenerife is the celebrated second oldest golf course in Spain - Real Club Golf in Tacoronte (ideally close to Tenerife Norte Airport). Tenerife golf course choice is to the west too, the beautifully elevanted Abama Resort Golf Club at Guia de Isora, oh and how about whipping over to Campo Tecina Golf course on neighbouring island La Gomera. Situated near Playa Santiago, if you fly over to La Gomera from Tenerife North Airport, La Gomera Airport is conveniently situated adjacent to Playa Santiago and Tecina Golf!

Tecina Golf, La Gomera's very own 18 hole golf course is just a 40 minute ferry ride from Los Cristianos in the south, or a 30 minute flight from Tenerife North Airport. La Gomera's airport is situated right near Tecina Golf in Playa Santiago (the ferry however docks at San Sebastian, where you'll have to get on another boat up to Playa Santiago, or do an approximately 30 minute drive from San Sebastian to Playa de Santiago.
Tecina Golf on La Gomera is an 18 hole golf course with views out to sea and across to Tenerife and El Teide. It's a challenging course. Check Tecina Golf's weblink right for more details. Good bases for easy access to this golf course include Playa Santiago, La Gomera, and any of the big Tenerife South resorts with easy access to the Los Cristianos ferry. Alternatively base yourself in north Tenerife at stunning La Laguna for easy access to Tenerife North Airport for direct flights to La Gomera, and bonus you'll also be near Real Club Golf at Tacoronte in north east Tenerife. Play golf till you drop, and stay on La Gomera for a few days as part of your holiday to really enjoy the challenge of Tecina Golf on La Gomera.
