Fuerteventura Tourism Guide - Fuerteventura Watersports Sports

For watersports, including a superb choice of kite surfing, surfing, windsurfing, diving and scuba diving, and jet ski, plus further choices of sport and leisure including jeep safari, horse riding, off roading by car or motor bike, sailing, catamaran sailing trips and yacht chartering - Fuerteventura has to be one of the best Canary Islands holiday destination for all of these leisure pursuits! Currently there are two golf course complexes on Fuerteventura, but many more are planed, with work afoot on more golf courses in Jandia, and up north near El Cotillo!

You've the best of the beaches in the Canary Islands here on Fuerteventura, so you'd expect the best of watersports availability to follow! Windsurfing championship competitions are held here, and kite surfing and surfing hotspots are particularly prevalent on the island. Check out the choice below, and click on the watersports and sports weblinks right for more details.

Fuerteventura Windsurfing Kitesurfing

Top windsurfing (and kite surfing) locations on Fuerteventura include El Cotillo and some at Corralejo to the north, around Costa Calma, particularly Playa de Sotavento and Playa de Esquinzo and a few at Caleta de Fuste, Fuerteventura's largest resort. The top windsurfing and kitesurfing spot has to be Sotavento - the winds are strongest here. However, beaches around El Cotillo are lesser known, and certainly catching up! Surf hotspots include Playa de Majanicho and Caleta del Barco to the north near Corralejo, Playa Bajo Negro on the east coast near Corralejo, over to the west at Los Caletones and Paso Chico, down at Sotavento to the south and indeed around El Cotillo in the north. For a good surf shop and surf board maker checkout Northshore Surf Shop and Factory, Fuerteventura, ES-35650 Lajares. Tel 928 86 83 21. See their weblink right for details. Fuerteventura Boat Trips

Bustling Caleta de Fuste, Fuerteventura's top family resort alongside Costa Calma offers a wide selection of fun boat trips, and plenty of diving excursions too!. Why not book yourself on the Nautilus Surface Submarine or an excursion to Pozo Negro - all available from the harbour area. Snorkling trips are a particular favourite from Caleta de Fuste.

If you're up in the north at Corralejo consider hooking into a day trip to Isla Lobos - Glass bottom boats do the trip, as do catamarans. Most boat sailing companies take bookings from outlets on Corralejo's busy harbour. Here's a selection: Majorero Glass Bottom Boat to Isla de Lobos, Corralejo Marina regular service every day at 10.00am, return to Corralejo at 17.00/5pm (winter) and 18.00/6pm (summer). Also available is the Special Three Island Cruise, (Corralejo-Lanzarote-Lobos-Corralejo) running every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday with lunch included! Departure 11:30, Return 17:00. Tel: 928 86 62 38 / 928 86 65 53 / 608 02 97 18. Barco Isla de Lobos Excursions are another company based on Corralejo Marina, Lobos excursions run every day, Depart around 10:15am. Tel: 608 01 80 22.

Moving down south in Fuerteventura, around Morro Jable in the Jandia region there's also an excellent choice of boat trips (visit Morro Jable Harbour for the selection of catamaran and sailing companies). Most of the catamaran sailing trips head down along the coast of Jandia for glorious views of Jandia's mountainous terrain, and crystal clear waters for swimming and other watersports including jet ski. Here's a selection of the choice: Catamaran Magic, Puerto de Morro Jable. Tel: 928 15 02 48. Catamaran Robinson Club Jandia Playa, Solana Matorral, Tel: 928 16 91 00. Escualo Deep Sea Fishing boat trips, Puerto de Morro Jable. Tel: 928 54 08 26. Maxi Playas de Jandia Yacht Trips, Tel: 629 59 14 55. Cristy White Day Excursion & Line Fishing, Puerto Morro Jable. Tel: 670 85 54 52.

Two express ferries run 7 trips daily from Fuerteventura to Lanzarote, and 7 ferry trips daily the other way - so you've plenty of choice. The ferries departing from Puerto del Rosario/Fuerteventura to Arrecife/Lanzarote are slower than the Corralejo/Playa Blanca route. Also, 5 ferries depart weekly from the capital Puerto del Rosario to Las Palmas, the capital of Gran Canaria, but again your faster route to Las Palmas is via the Morro Jable (south in Jandia/Fuerteventura) jetfoil route. Building work is currently afoot on developing a harbour even further south at the southern tip of Fuerteventura, so times will soon be even quicker between Fuerteventura and Las Palmas, Gran Canaria!

Fuerteventura Diving & Scuba Diving

Fuerteventura is renowned for its excellent choice of dive sites, and a number of diving schools and excursion tours are available on the island, easily accessed from the main resorts of Corralejo and Caleta de Fuste particularly.

Top dive sites on Fuerteventura include Las Salinas del Carmen on the east coast just below Caleta de Fuste, around Caleta de Fuste itself, up around Corralejo at Playa de Majanicho and in the waters between Fuerteventura and Isla de Lobos. Diving trips are also available around the little Isla de Lobos nature reserve too. Ajuy on the west coast of Fuerteventura, with its cave and cliff lined coast is also a popular diving spot on Fuerteventura (there's a very attractive black sandy beach here!)

Salinas del Carmen to the east has a cliff lined coast, with some magical underwater scenery here. Renowned Dive Centre - Abyss Divers (weblink right) list their five top dive sites on Fuerteventura as El Jablito, Oasis, Anchor Reef, Miguel's Rock and Las Salinas.

Excellent diving, with a feel for family diving trips - Deep Blue Diving S.L, C.I.F.No. B-35510577, E - 35610 Caleta de Fuste, Antigua - Fuerteventura. Canary Islands. Tel: 34.928 16 37 12. Checkout their website to the right for more details. They've won a few awards this diving centre! Their dive sites are mostly around Caleta de Fuste, and include the Castillo Riff and the Salinas Riff. Abyss Divers lay on 4 wheel drives to remote Fuerteventura dive sites and offer a choice of diving courses to suit small groups, experienced and beginner divers. Fuerteventura Corralejo Waterparks, Fun Parks, Camel Safari & Animal Parks

Corralejo Waterpark, Golf complex and all round family fun is to be found in the relatively new Baku Waterpark complex in Corralejo (see the excursions/tours section on this website too, as you can easily book yourself on an excursion to this northern based Fuerteventura attraction if you're staying down in the south at Morro Jable or Costa Calma).

The Baku Waterpark is a top family attraction on Fuerteventura offering a great choice of big wave pools, childrens play areas, fast slides and even a Tibetan bridge. Ample cafes and restaurants are also situated on-site, alongside a big new golf training centre and golf course, a bowling area, a market held every Monday and Friday from 8am to 2pm and there's a popular Canarian Restaurant - Las Molinas here too. Checkout the Baku Waterpark and Leisure Complex website to the right for more details

Another very popular family attraction on Fuerteventura is Oasis Park in La Lajita near Costa Calma. Here at Oasis Park are all the ingredients for a fun family day out, including a huge tropical garden, 100s of different tropical birds and there's an African Savannah section in this park with numerous exotic African animals. The botanical gardens here contain an enormous selection of cactus. and a selection of shops such as the sea lions show, parrot shows, and reptile shows run daily. The highlight of the park is the Camel Safari which takes groups, a-top of camels upto the La Lajita Valley.
