Just up the coast from Puerto Rico, pretty Puerto de Mogan (otherwise known as 'Little Venice') is tiny in comparison and a popular temporary stop for catamaran and boat trips in the area. You can see why, it's a delightful little one time fishing village with a small picturesque beach and tasteful bars and restaurants. Puerto de Mogan is mostly pedestrianised, so makes for pleasant strolling around its narrow streets.
The contrast to Puerto Rico is pretty striking, especially as they are so close. Well worth a visit, or look either from the sea via a catamaran trip from Puerto Rico or as a quiet and get-away/sail away from it all base. It's popular with day trippers, if you're staying here it's more expensive than the budget resorts further south and much of the accommodation here are private apartments! Tours and daytrips to 'Little Venice' are widely available from the main resorts.
Much effort has gone into the tasteful and low key tourist development at Puerto de Mogan. It's waterfront consists of a pretty harbour, plenty of exotic flowers particularly bougainvillea and peace and quiet, except on Friday mornings when Puerto de Morgan's market is in full flow.
Holiday activities in Puerto de Mogan revolve around the sea and its harbour. The famous yellow submarine is based here and takes you under the clear waters of Puerto de Mogan - great for families with young children or those who don't fancy diving. There's a few ship wrecks and plenty of caves off the Puerto de Mogan coast too, making this excursion and indeed diving in this area of Gran Canaria particularly special.
Both Puerto De Mogan and Puerto Rico are popular bases to hook into diving trips. In fact you'll usually spot a few divers and see the two wrecks on the Yellow Submarine Diving excursion. The wrecks were deliberately sunk by the way for the purpose of the Yellow Submarine tour - however, the wrecks make for fascinating underwater viewing whether on the submarine or on a diving excursion. Both are covered in marine life as are the two caves in this area.
Submarine Adventure, Puerto de Mogan, Tel: 928 56 51 08. There are about 8 dives daily and there's a free bus service to Puerto de Mogan and this popular excursion.
There's ample opportunity to hook into a diving trip, catamaran sailing trip or yacht charter at Puerto de Morgan. Catamaran sailing trips tend to sail towards Puerto de Mogan from Puerto Rico. Numerous catamaran sailing trips are available from Puerto Rico harbour. Checkout the choice of Diving companies by clicking on the diving weblinks right.
In line with Puerto de Mogan's push towards an image of luxury, the Anfi Tauro Luxury Golf and Leisure Resort is based here in Puerto de Mogan. This golf course is a 9 hole par 3 course, with a beautiful setting and mountainous backdrop. The course has a few lakes, and is attractively designed with flowers, a putting green and a practice area. Check out the Anfi Tauro Golf weblink to the right for further details.
Puerto de Mogan's little beach is a semi-circular shape and sits adjacent to it's attractive harbour. It's shape protects it nicely, and apart from sea traffic coming in and out, this beach offers a quiet and secluded beach area away from the crowds.
