Lanzarote Tourism Guide - Lanzarote Family Attractions

Lanzarote is an excellent choice for family holidays, with a host of family attractions on offer including Lanzarote waterparks and theme parks, animal parks featuring crocodile and parrot shows, aquariums and a Dolphin and Whale museum and a choice of superb blue flag, sheltered family beaches offering a host of watersports and fun rides in the Lanzarote resorts of Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca.

Near the two main resorts there are two big theme parks. Near Costa Teguise is a fun packed aqua park, ideal for fun family days out. Just outside Puerto del Carmen is Rancho Texas Park - yeeeee ha - a fun adventure theme park featuring various animal shows plus numerous family rides and more. Free buses are available to many of these attractions too!

Rancho Texas Park, Puerto del Carmen

Probably the biggest and highest profile family theme park attraction on Lanzarote, Rancho Texas Park just outside the biggest resort on the island - Puerto del Carmen offers a menu of fun, fun, fun, plus Country and Western themed nights too! Did you know there are links between Canarian emigrants and the city of San Antonio in Texas. About 40 emigrants from Lanzarote helped to establish the town around 1731 and the first mayor of San Antonio was from Lanzarote. Find out more on the website right and at the park itself.

On offer are Birds of prey free flight shows, Crocodile shows, parrot shows, and there's a mock up Indian village and lagoon, canoe and pony rides, apparently an authentic goldmine (better get down there then!) small farm animals and a medicine man's cave - wild west Lanzarote style - kids love it.

Also popular at Rancho Texas are the rip roaring Country and Western nights here, ideal for families as they're all inclusive. You can eat as much as you like from the BBQ, with flowing beer, sangria and soft drinks available all night accompanied by live music and cowboy, indian and saloon girl antics! There's a bouncy castle on for the kids too. Check out the website link right for more details!

Guinate Tropical Park, Guinate, North Lanzarote

Lanzarote does well for family fun animal parks, and this tropical park at Guinate in the north of Lanzarote is one of the most popular. The park is big, occupying 45,000 square metres with stunning gardens, lagoons, waterfalls, exotic birds, mammals and reptiles from across the world. There's a Koi carp aquarium and cactus garden here too!

The centre has a serious side too, acting as a breeding centre for some species. It's particularly renowned for it's Parrot Shows. Currently six bird shows run daily if parrot/bird shows are your cup of tea. Other attractions include a zoological garden, a botanical garden, a kids play area and there's a souvenir and snack bar on-site.

Check the Guinate Tropical Park website right for full details. There are some spectacular views to be had from the park too of La Graciosa, Alegranza and Montana Clara.

Guinate Tropical Park, North Lanzarote. Tel: 928 835 500, open from 10.00am to 17.00pm daily. Check their website right for more details.

Costa Teguise Aqua Water Park

Just before you get to the Costa Teguise golf course, just outside of Costa Teguise you come to Costa Teguise's very own little waterpark. Not mammoth, but hey a fun family day out guaranteed. There's quite a few fun rides here including a childrens lake, a kids leisure park, a game castle, lots of kids slides, ample shops and a restaurant. Oh yes, and watch out for the 8 track slide, the whirl water and the rapids.

Costa Teguise's theme/waterpark is open from 10.00am to 18.00 pm every day. Regular buses run from the main Lanzarote resorts, or book yourself on an organised excursion to the waterpark (see excursions section for details).

Costa Teguise Aquapark, Avda. Club de Golf, Parcela 315, Costa Teguise, Lanzarote. Tel: 928 59 21 28.

Whales and Dolphins Museum, Puerto Calero

Another lesser known, and excellent museum ideal for family holiday trips in Lanzarote, is the Museo de Cataceos de Canarias, or Wales and Dolphins Museum located in Puerto Calero's attractive marina space. It's certainly an appropriate museum for the Canary Islands, as dolphins and whales abound in the surrounding Atlantic waters.

Outside the museum is a giant skeleton of what appears to be a whale - giving you an idea of what to expect inside. The museum explores the evolution of whales and dolphins in detail through life sized reproduction models, skeleton collections, fils of Canarian waters, sounds and interactive displays, photographs and biological samples. Guided visits are available, as are group discounts. For a few more details check out the Dolphins and Whales Museum weblink right. Numerous Dolphin and Whale sight seeing tours are available from Puerto Calero Marina too!

Museo de Cataceos de Canarias, Edif. Antiguo Varadero 1, planta Local 11, Urb. Puerto Calero 35571, Yaiza Lanzarote. Tel: 34 928 849 560.

Lanzarote Aquarium, Arrecife

Continuing on the family marine attraction theme, why not take a peak at Lanzarote's Aquarium situated in the capital Arrecife. There's a lot going on here in this huge aquarium which has 33 aquariums full of tropical fish and marine life found around the Canary Islands. The underwater tunnel here is also very popular.

If you're not into trying a spot of diving whilst on Lanzarote, then the aquarium in Arrecife is the next best thing, taking you on a learning journey on the underwater seaworld around Lanzarote.

Lanzarote Aquarium is open from 10.00am to 19.00pm every day. Aquarium Lanzarote, Avda. Las Acacias s/n, 35.509, Costa Teguise, Lanzarote. Tel: 928 590 069.

Submarine Safaris Lanzarote

Mind you, there is another alternative to diving - and that's the very popular yellow submarine safari which takes you below the water around Puerto Calero to view the underwater world through the large viewing ports provided. All in airconditioned comfort. A magic experience offering a great opportunity to families to explore the marine life around Lanzarote together.

Check out the weblink for the Submarine Safari right for more details.

Submarine Safaris Lanzarote, Modulo C, Local 2, Puerto Calero, Lanzarote. Tel: 928 512 898.

Costa Teguise Golf Course

Conveniently close to one of Lanzarote's main resorts Costa Teguise, although Lanzarote is not renowned for it's golf courses like Tenerife, this one here is excellent.

Costa Teguise Golf Course has 18 holes, and was built in 1978. All year round golf is available here on this relatively challenging course. It's nicely designed and is actually located at the foot of an old volcano - penty of cactus, palm trees and moulding around lava flow, with good views, this golf course is definitely aesthetically pleasing.
