Lanzarote Tourism Guide - Costa Teguise

Costa Teguise is a laid back resort, perfect for couples, families, and older visitors wanting entertainment, but not of the like that's 'in your face'. This Lanzarote resort hotspot sometimes gets accused of lacking character, primarily because it's a 'build from scratch resort'. However, it's far from characterless if you're looking for superb Canaries windsurfing, Costa Teguise gets the wind, a fine promenade lining Costa Teguise's selection of beaches, ample family restaurants, bars and some low key nightlife and plenty going on for families with children or couples looking to spend time together. Las Cucharas beach is where the windsurfers head, and Costa Teguise benefits from a choice of windsurfing schools, and windsurfing bars and surfing clothes shops.

Costa Teguise resort attractions, as well as a choice of excellent white sandy beaches with watersports galore, include an adjacent aqua water park. Costa Teguise waterpark is smaller in size compared to the mammoth aquaparks to be found on Gran Canaria and Tenerife, but that makes it more friendly, and there's a superb choice of water slides and rides to guarantee a fun family day out! Costa Teguise also benefits from a golf course, plus it's within easy reach of both Arrecife and pretty Teguise with it's popular Sunday market! Based in Costa Teguise you''ve the best of many worlds, with easy access to the nearby capital Arrecife (well worth a half day or evenings shopping at least), plus numerous excursions pick up from the resort, out to Timanfaya and the Manrique cultural centres. Accommodation standards are excellent too, with everything from self catering to all inclusive resort hotels with great swimming pools. Perfect for Lanzarote family holidays!

Costa Teguise Beaches

Costa Teguise has three main beaches allowing for plenty of space so you'll never feel too penned in. The best beach is Playa de Las Cucharas Beach with it's expanse of 640 metres of stunning golden sands. You won't be short of a sunbed on this Lanzarote beach. Why not try your hand at windsurfing. Las Cucharas is the perfect windsurfing location, and there's a choice of windsurfing schools in Costa Teguise, especially near Las Cucharas beach. You'll find a few windsurfing and surfer bars too. Although Las Cucharas gets the wind, it's sheltered too with protective breakwaters - so perfect for relaxing sunbathing. Low rise hotels and apartments (mostly apartments and studios) line Costa Teguise's coast, but not in an oppressive overdeveloped way - it's a pleasant coastline with an attractive promenade and a few promentaries where fishing is popular.

Watch out for some interesting sculptures along the Costa Teguise coastline - a chic touch and some are rather effective with their Atlantic backdrop. They're not by Manrique, but their certainly his style and his influence remains strong even in the resorts of Lanzarote. Ample services are near to Cucharas including a huge choice of restaurants, parking (although this can be a bit thin on the ground nearer the beaches in peak season), kiosks, telephones, a bus stop, beach, nic-nacks and clothes shops and a selection of windsurfing schools and windsurfing equipment hire outlets. Las Cucharas also has good disabled access and the promenade is easy to navigate for those with mobility issues or in wheelchairs. Jogging is popular along the promenade in early morning.

Costa Teguise is particularly popular for it's choice of beaches, with other beaches as well as Las Cucharas including Playa del Jabillo and Bastian Beach, both of which have fine white sands and are smaller versions of Las Cucharas. Moving out of Costa Teguise slightly, nearer to Arrecife you'll find other beaches including Playa de los Charcos and Playa del Ancia. More of Lanzarote's lava flow is evident on these beaches, particularly Ancia Beach which is a pleasant cove beach blending sand with lava rocks to good effect - it's quieter this beach and popular with Spanish visitors.

Costa Teguise Windsurfing & Diving

Top watersports in Costa Teguies include windsurfing and diving - why not try your hand! There's a scattering of windsurfing schools, mostly near to Las Cucharas beach so you can learn to windsurf during your stay. Diving trips are also popular in Costa Teguise and likewise there are a few diving outlets offering trips out. Check out Calipso Diving in Costa Teguise, one of the most popular and long-standing. Calipso Diving offer a choice of courses, from becoming a qualified Scuba Diver in just two days to a 'Try Dive' for complete beginners. Family snorkelling excursions are also offered, as well as daily dive expeditions to various locations around Lanzarote and BSAC and PADI courses.

If you've always fancied trying a spot of windsurfing then here's your chance during your holiday in Lanzarote/Costa Teguise. You'll love it so much you'll be moving onto surfing and scooting across to Famara's Beach on the almost exact opposite side of Lanzarote to Costa Teguise (highly recommended just a short distance via Teguise then left up the 402 to Famara).

Top windsurfing schools in Costa Teguise include, among a few, Windsurf Paradise (see photo left) right next to Las Cucharas beach. Very handy, as here's where the windsurfing action is.

Costa Teguise Nightlife & Restaurants

With an emphasis on family holidays, Costa Teguise isn't a pumping nightlife resort, more of a family, live music bar scene here with enough restaurant choice to keep everyone happy, including a choice of fast food outlets and a number of chinese restaurants.

Discos (with a family approach) on in Costa Teguise include King Arthur DiscoPub.C.C. Punta Jablillo, local 4 - Costa Teguise. Tel: +34.647.835.509.

Costa Teguise restaurants abound, and really there's so much choice and variety - too many to mention. Wander around this pleasant and tidy resort and take your pick. A number of restaurants and bars line the beach promenade, with nice views out to sea.
