Playa Honda, a developing and tasteful resort area, is commonly associated with Arrecife the Capital of Lanzarote - and considered a suburb of it, although it sits within the district of San Bartolome. Just a 10 minute hop from the Airport, this mostly residential little Lanzarote resort is low key, tranquil, and has a very pleasant sandy beach.
A taxi from the airport to Playa Honda is still well under 10 euros. Playa Honda's roots are as a small fishing village, and this feel is retained. An excellent strolling beach promenade connects Arrecife to Playa Honda and it's beach (Arrecife is just 7km north of Playa Honda). Great leisurely coastal walking then is on the menu here.
Playa Honda, along with Matagorda and Pocillos and quieter resort locations along the south east coast of Lanzarote between Arrecife, the airport and Puerto del Carmen the island's largest resort. It's hard to establish whether their off-shots of Arrecife or Puerto del Carmen - the answer is probably both, but Playa Honda is the closest to the capital Arrecife.
Playa Honda, and Matagorda and Pocillos for that matter, get the winds - great news for windsurfers, and windsurfing is definitely the most popular watersport here.
There's no pumping nightlife here - just quiet escapism. Playa Honda is a good choice for privacy and as a retreat, ideally suited to couples looking to get away from it all or windsurfing fanatics.
La Concha Beach, Playa Honda's big attraction, consists of about 1,900m of golden sand, backed on by the promenade which runs all the way to Arrecife. Adjacent to Playa Honda's beach is Guacimeta beach which is also popular with windsurfers, kite surfers and a touch of naturism is popular here - it's quiet and away from the crowds so is a favourite Lanzarote nudist beach.
