Many Lanzarote guidebooks pay little attention to Arrieta, however this pretty very Spanish village has a delightful beach, some excellent little specialist shops particularly on the jewellery and clothes side, plus some excellent water's edge bars and restaurants.
If you're looking for a base with a genuine Canary Island feel then Arrieta will be for you - away from the crowds and the big resorts and within easy reach of the Cactus Gardens and Jameos del Agua.
Arrieta is a delight, particularly for more independent travellers looking for a more Canarian/Spanish feel to their base rather than a typical Lanzarote resort styled base. There's some pleasant and high standard accommodation available here, as well as a pretty sandy beach complimented by it's wild mountain background frame.
Potter around Arrieta and you've adequate amenities to hand including a Canarian supermarket (with much cheaper prices that the overpriced resort supermarkets), a wonderful selection of harbourside restaurants and bars, and a few pretty chic specialist shops too. Arrieta's beach also has a bar on it, with a promentary promenade perfect for quiet fishing and strolls.
Altogether, a quiet and typically Canarian coastal location - if you prefer to avoid the Lanzarote resorts consider Arrieta - a quiet, relaxing getaway from it all holiday base!
