Lanzarote beaches and choice of watersports available won't disappoint beach loving fans. All the main resorts - Playa Blanca, Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise offer a choice of immaculate sandy beaches, with ample sunbeds and fulls facilities including restaurants, shops and bars lining beach promenades. As well as excellent beaches at these main resorts, move around the island and discover more stunning beaches including Famara, a top surfing paradise beach on the north coast, or Papagayo to the south. Discover surprises too, like the pretty black sandy beach at Arrieta north of Costa Teguise.
Watersports fanatics will be in heaven on the beaches of Lanzarote. Windsurfers head to Costa Teguise and Papagayo. Kite surfers and surfers check out the waves at Famara. For an excellent choice of diving excursions head to Puerto del Carmen and Puerto Calero. Nudist Lanzarote beaches have emerged at a few locations including Papagayo beach, Janubio beach, some at Famara, also at Guacimeta beach near Lanzarote Airport and at Charco del Palo (Mala) - Topless sunbathing is common in the resorts. Other favourite beaches on Lanzarote include Quemada, the beaches on La Graciosa Island, those around La Santa and Playa de la Canteria.
Lanzarote certainly isn't short on fabulous beaches with plenty of opportunity for watersports, and you can expect a choice of blue flag beaches here, nicely presented with plenty of sunbeds and crystal clear tranquil waters. Hit the resort of Costa Teguise on the east side of the island (they get the winds here!) for excellent family windsurfing and some diving opportunities. Costa Teguise's selection of beaches are of golden sands, and nicely sheltered for families and gentle swimming. This Lanzarote resort offers a choice of 4 delgihtful sandy beaches, Las Cucharas beach, Los Charcos beach, El Jablillo beach and Bastian beach. the largest tis Las Cucharas with 640m of pretty beige brown sands and it's nicely sheltered by breakwaters. Ample facilities such as restaurants, windsurfing hire and schools, surf clothing shops, bars, some low key kids rides and an attractive and accessible promenade running along all the beaches (watch out for the joggers early morning along here!).
Puerto del Carmen's beaches don't get the wind quite as much as Costa Teguise, but there's some offering gentler windsurfing opportunities here. The 6 km long beaches with beautiful golden sands are what draws many, especially British holidaymakers, to this established Lanzarote resort (the oldest on the island). Some of the best opportunities for watersports are here in this busy Lanzarote resort and it's beaches, including sailing, windsurfing, diving excursions, waterskiing and perfect conditions for family swimming.
Calling all surfing fans, have you discovered the beach at Famara to the north west of Lanzarote. A gem of a beach for surfers, this low key resort has a bohemian air, and it's popular with the young surfing fans and families too. A definite hotspot for surfing across the Canary islands.
Heading far south, Playa Blanca is a pretty Lanzarote resort indeed with a choice of quieter excellent family beaches. You can head off from here on a day trip to Fuerteventura to explore the stunning sandy beaches of Corralejo too on the Fred Olsen Express which runs regularly through the day and only takes 12 minutes! Playa Blanca is popular with Spanish holidaymakers and families, as well as British and German holidaymakers and has a nice friendly vibe with family bars and restaurants along the beach, and pretty smaller beaches, If you've a hire car on Lanzarote then consider pushing out to some of the lesser known beaches such as the lovely sandy beach at Arrieta - a surprise nice beach, and of course there's the world renowned Punta del Papagayo, one of the most stunning beaches on Lanzarote and a watersports hotspot for windsurfing especially.
The choice of beaches at both Costa Teguise and Puerto del Carmen is superb for families, and there are numerous watersports and water fun rides available off the beaches at these main resorts including banana boat rides, paragliding, pedalo and various boat trip options such as the glass bottom variety and the famous yellow submarine excursion departs from Puerto del Carmen. Costa Teguise is great for family windsurfing - from beginners to the most experienced.
Lanzarote resort beaches are particularly good for family swimming as they're sheltered, sandy and beautifully kept, offering safe bathing for all the family. For families who like the waves, Famara offers great family surfing, but watch the waves and undercurrent here - Famara is not a sheltered beach and inexperienced swimmers will need supervision.
Top sheltered Lanzarote family beaches are at Playa Blanca, Costa Teguise and Puerto del Carmen. Also, if you're out and about check out the little black sandy beach at Arrieta - very pleasant it is, with a Spanish vibe untouched by tourism. There's a little bar/cafe on the beach too.
A number of beaches are open to naturism in Lanzarote, albeit discreet. These include Guacimeta beach near Lanzarote's airport, Papagayo beach to the south (stunning and wild is this beach), some at Famara, Janubio beach on the west coast of Lanzarote near El Golfo (black sand on this side of the island), and some naturism at Playa Quemada which is quiet and close to Puerto Calero's delightful marina. There's good coastal walking at Quemada too.
Finally, check out Charco del Palo on the northeast coast of Lanzarote near Mala. This is a nice quiet naturist beach, in fact it's developed into a nudist low key resort of sorts.
