This little gem of a resort in Lanzarote retains it's fishing village roots well, and is perfect for quiet family holidays, with easy access to day trips to Fuerteventura. Good for all round relaxing sunshine and beach holidays too, Playa Blanca is perfect for those looking to really relax - no booming clubs and nightlife here, just wonderfully laid back beach view restaurants, bars and a nice choice of shops too.
Only a hop skip and jump from Lobos and Fuerteventura (maximum 30 minutes on the boat trip over to Fuerteventura), Playa Blanca is an excellent base to access catamaran trips too or diving around Lobos. Playa Blanca has a selection of it's own cove like beaches, but it's also conveniently close to some of the most if not the most beautiful beach on Lanzarote - Papagayo Beach!
If you like walking combined with a low key beach resort holiday, Playa Blanca is perfect. Coastal walking here is excellent - you can walk all the way to the Faro de Pechiguera lighthouse in the far west of Lanzarote, and east along the coast to beautiful Papagayo. You've also easy access upto the Yaiza and Timanfaya Volcano region. They're working on a promenade (pretty much already finished) which will eventually run all the way to the western tip lighthouse - but it's perfectly walkable now. Also, if you take a walk inland during the first week in July you'll coincide with the fantastic San Marcial del Rubicon (the patron saint of Lanzarote) celebrations - an image of the saint is to be found in the village of Femes inland from Playa Blanca.
This Lanzarote resort has an appeal for many different types of holidaymakers, from those who want to get active and take boat trips, to lazy couple beach holidays, to low key family holidays to great coastal and inland walking holidays! Think small and tranquil, yet with all the essential amenities expected in a good holiday resort. Playa Blanca also has it's own little castle - the Castillo de las Coloradas, built in 1769 on the order of King Carlos III of Spain. Another preventitive pirate invasion measure. There's an upmarket feel to this resort as well, with it's attractively small harbour, wonderful promenade for evening strolls and small bay beaches - all are blue flag beaches. Beaches in Playa Blanca include the central Playa Blanca beach (blue flag), Playa Flamingo just to the west and peerfect for families and Playa Dorada, also a blue flag beach and slightly to the east. Also, why not hop on a sea taxi up to Papagayo - these run regularly from Playa Blanca harbour - fantastic!
