The busiest and liveliest of Lanzarote's three main resorts, Puerto del Carmen is a firm favourite with the Brits. You can see why - excellent blue flag beaches crammed with sunbeds, numerous watersports and fun rides available, easy access to diving trips and boat trips, including the famous submarine excursion and Rancho Texas theme park just round the corner.
Bars, fast food restaurants and shops line the well kept main beach promenade. Nightlife is good, with a selection of discos and clubs, an enormous number of bars, many of which are themed and offer live music and entertainment in the evenings, Puerto Del Carmen is a resort to get active in, during the day on the beach and out on the water, and come night you'll be living it up in the many bars and clubs - an excellent choice for a lively stag or hen weekend or week too! Activities like camel rides, karting, beauty treatments, catamaran trips, windsurfing and diving are all activities easy accessed from Puerto del Carmen!
Lanzarote's oldest and largest resort, Puerto Del Carmen is a good choice for both family holidays and couples, as well as those looking for a little nightlife. It's a good choice for stag and hen dos too, with loads of things to do local attaction wise including Rancho Texas Theme Park, three great sandy beaches with watersports galore, karting locally and boat trip and diving choices!
Playa Grande or Blanca as it's sometimes known is the favourite beach in this resort, and a fine family sheltered beach it is too with pedalo rides, paragliding and banana boat rides all available and safe swimming for families. The promenade lines the three beaches of Puerto del Carmen - Playa Grande beach, Playa de los Pocillos beach and at the eastern end of the resort Playa de Matagorda which is less crowded. Diving excursions are no problem - there are numerous diving excursions on offer in Puerto del Carmen.
Lots of laid back bars line the promenade - Avenida de las Playas (the beach avenue). This road is the main centre of activity in the resort, and restaurants, hotels, shops and fast food centres line this promenade. Puerto del Carmen is popular with British holidaymakers - the blue flag nice beaches are a big attraction, and English is widely spoken here - a home from home, with guaranteed sunshine, ample facilities and many bars, restaurants and nightclubs.
There's more of a bar feel to the nightlife in Lanzarote's top resort Puerto del Carmen - but there's plenty of live music and clubs on offer.
Probably the biggest and highest profile family theme park attraction on Lanzarote, Rancho Texas Park just outside the biggest resort on the island - Puerto del Carmen offers a menu of fun, fun, fun, plus Country and Western themed nights too! Did you know there are links between Canarian emigrants and the city of San Antonio in Texas. About 40 emigrants from Lanzarote helped to establish the town around 1731 and the first mayor of San Antonio was from Lanzarote. Find out more on the website right and at the park itself.
On offer are Birds of prey free flight shows, Crocodile shows, parrot shows, and there's a mock up Indian village and lagoon, canoe and pony rides, apparently an authentic goldmine (better get down there then!) small farm animals and a medicine man's cave - wild west Lanzarote style - kids love it.
Also popular at Rancho Texas are the rip roaring Country and Western nights here, ideal for families as they're all inclusive. You can eat as much as you like from the BBQ, with flowing beer, sangria and soft drinks available all night accompanied by live music and cowboy, indian and saloon girl antics! There are so many bars and restaurants lining the Lanzarote resort promenades, and scattered across the resorts it's not worth mentioning them all - it's all there though from fast food outlets, to Chinese, to Tex Mex, to probably everything you can think of except perhaps traditional Canarian food - for this you'll need to head inland to the Bodegas or to some of the delectible Manrique restaurants at Jameos and the particularly good one at Casa Monumento al Campesino in San Bartolome. Also Teguise, which is conveniently close to Costa Teguise has a superb selection of Bodegas!
