Costa del Silencio or the silent coast, well quieter than Playa de las Americas anyway, is situated to the east of Los Cristianos and just south of Tenerife Sur Airport on the coast. Adjacent is Las Galletas (a popular diving site and excursion are). You're only 12 km away from Playa de las Americas here and a mere 15 minutes transfer time from the airport.
Amenities are well developed here in this Tenerife South resort area which was actually one of the first southern locations to develop on Tenerife, beginning in the early 1960s here in Costa del Silencio with the Ten Bel Holiday Complex (which is still there by the way). Manmade and self contained, Costa del Silencio is a good budget resort base for families or couples, with good bus services into Las Americas and Los Cristianos, and north to El Medano and a spot of windsurfing or kitesurfing!
Dating back to the early 1960s, this Tenerife south resort is longstanding and hence has excellent resort facilities including three large commercial centres with bars, shops and restaurants, plus a choice of all inclusive accommodation with swimming pools. Plenty of self catering Tenerife accommodation here too, especially at the mammoth Ten Bel Holiday Complex.
It's worth considering Tenerife car hire if you're based here in Costa del Silencio. This makes a good base but you'll be wanting to head out for better beaches, and things to do on Tenerife, as apart from a reasonable bar and restaurant scene there's not much by way of entertainment.
One drawback is the lack of a good beach here - currently it's a narrow black sand beach. There are plans afoot to improve it, but the drawback is minimal as both Las Galletas, which has a reasonable beach and excellent facilities for diving, is just next door, and El Medano, Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos are easily accessible. Also at Las Galletas is the popular Yellow submarine Diving excursion based in the harbour!
