Playa de la Arena is the smaller sister if you like to Los Gigantes and Puerto de Santiago, but there's building going on inland so it's definitely growing. Friendly and again with pretty cove black sand beach and ample resort facilities including bars and shops lining the coast, it's a fully fitted holiday resort with all you could possibly need. It's quieter here though as compared to the Tenerife resorts further south, so if you're looking for rip roaring Tenerife nightlife head south. Coming up from the south, Playa de la Arena is the first and newest of the three resorts on this stretch of Tenerife's west coast.
In Playa de la Arena expect a laid back bar and restaurant scene, perfect for couples, families and older visitors. It's ideally placed for exploring the west of Tenerife too, so consider it for a cheap walking base for the Teno mountains out of season. This stretch of the west coast, with the three Tenerife resorts, enjoys the longest hours of sunshine on the island. Another bonus to picking this area for your Tenerife beach resort holiday!
Playa de la Arena certainly has the best beach in this area of Tenerife, with fine views across the water to La Gomera island. Unlike the manmade beaches of the southern Tenerife resorts, Playa de la Arena beach is natural black sand giving it a certain charm. Bars and cafes are adjacent to the beach and unlike Playa de las Americas, free parking generally isn't a problem here.
Playa de la Arena is a long resort, although it's starting to push inland up into the hills. As it's relatively new and modern, some building and development work is in progress but it's fairly low key and away from the coast.
Like the southern Tenerife resorts, Playa de la Arena and the other two adjacent resorts are renowned for constant sunshine. The west side of the island avoids the cloud, offering perfect conditions for all year round beach and resort holidays on Tenerife.
No pumping Tenerife nightlife here, just lots of family oriented bars, restaurants, shops and shopping centres and easy access to excursions around the island. A good choice of a quieter beach resort holiday, Playa de la Arena has the best beach in the area.
