Granadilla de Abona sits inland from El Medano and touches the borders of the Teide National Park. You're in prime Tenerife walking territory here, with easy access to some of Tenerife's other peaks such as second highest Guajara (2,718metres). The local landscape is largely agricultural - Granadilla is famous for it's vegetable growing including cereals, grapes, pulses and potatoes.
Granadilla makes an excellent walking base for exploring the lunar landscapes in the area, for example at Paisaje Lunar. Car hire is recommended if you're staying in Granadilla, and you'll be ideally placed near the C-822 for tours into the Teide National Park or down to the larger Tenerife South resorts.
The resident popular here in Granadilla has grown in recent years - it's a Canarian small town through and through. You can expect local amenities, but certainly not a resort atmosphere.
